I don’t know why you have to do a Ph.D. to be ‘big’
All sociologists, particularity Foucault (ok…social scientists…thinkers of our accepted epistemologies) have acknowledged that knowledge is created and never complete. Then how can you use ‘scientific’ research techniques to sit over a ‘problem’ for five years. Do you gain more knowledge studying one issue for many years or studying many issues (which include reflexivity in studying) for many years? Do we even have to know more? That means specialized knowledge makes you dumber! You know only one thing. Only when you know one thing in depth do you know all else superficially. This makes it easy to rule over you, control you and enslave you. Have you ever been in a debate on the issue of cloning, feminist literature, political propaganda, rocket science? So hard it is to debate right? Coz you only know your field and the rest is ???...huh??? the whole process of report writing (or thesis writing) is governed by that of natural sciences. Are the accepted tools and methodologies the only ways of knowing? Knowledge constrains.
